Dear Colleagues,

Fresno State is pleased to announce the launch of Grammarly EDU for faculty and staff, effective September 15. This decision results from consultation with the Academic Senate, Academic Information Technology, and AI Committees, reflecting a collaborative approach to integrating AI tools to support the university’s academic and administrative work. 

Faculty and staff at Fresno State will have access to Grammarly EDU under a one-year institutional license, which ends August 2026. This license is at no cost to the university.

Grammarly is an AI-powered writing assistant that provides real-time grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style suggestions. The Fresno State license includes all Generative AI features for faculty and staff. See the instructions below to activate Grammarly EDU.  

The rollout of Grammarly EDU for students is pending further discussions with the AI committees, the Academic Senate, and ASI. In the meantime, offering Grammarly to faculty and staff first allows the university community to explore its features, gather feedback, and better prepare for a successful student launch. How to Activate Grammarly  

Visit the Getting Started with Grammarly EDU page on the AI Campus Portal. Begin by activating your account (see the blue button). Once your account is activated, you will receive next-step instructions via email from aicampus@mail.fresnostate.edu. Step-by-step instructions are under the Activate Your Account drop-down menus.

IMPORTANT: All Fresno State Grammarly EDU accounts must be created using an @mail.fresnostate.edu email address. Accounts created with @csufresno.edu or any other domain are not supported under this license.

Already have a Grammarly Account? 

There are options if you have a free or paid Grammarly account associated with your @csufresno.edu or @mail.fresnostate.edu email. You may keep your existing account by updating it with a personal email address (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo) or merging with Fresno State’s Grammarly EDU license. Both options are explained during the activation process.
