ChatGPT will be made available to campus users by invitation.  An invitation will be sent to users to be included in our workspace.  

On March 17, faculty and staff will automatically become enrolled in ChatGPT. However, participation is entirely optional—you may choose whether or not to use it. For instructions on joining the Fresno State workspace, follow this link: ChatGPT Edu Activation 

Do you already have a paid ChatGPT subscription? Faculty and staff with existing subscriptions will not be automatically enrolled in the Fresno State ChatGPT workspace. Those interested in joining may contact the Technology Service Desk at 559.278.5000. We are currently working on the details of migrating data and custom work from personal accounts to the Fresno State platform. If you have concerns about potential data loss, you may choose to decline participation now and join later when you are ready. 

After July 14, to activate ChatGPT, students must first review and sign the Student Terms and Conditions for Use of Generative AI Tools & Solutions - a one-time requirement that grants access to ChatGPT and also covers any AI tools made available to students in the future. The agreement is found on the “To Do” list in the Student Portal. Once signed and approved, students will receive an email from OpenAI (within one business day) indicating access is granted.

If you created a ChatGPT account using your Fresno State email, please note that any content saved there will not transfer to the Fresno State ChatGPT workspace. To avoid losing important work, make sure to back it up separately before making the switch. 

For Fresno State Students, Faculty, and Staff, there is no cost to you personally or your department for the plan purchased through the Chancellor's Office for all employees and students.

The CSU Chancellor’s Office has signed an 18-month (February 2025 - July 2026) contract for ChatGPT with an option to extend the agreement.

The CSU is providing ChatGPT Edu, a plan specifically built for universities to responsibly deploy AI to for active employees and students.  Limitations apply.

Yes, Fresno State’s ChatGPT Edu environment is private and secure, meaning all data remains private to the university. No information will be shared with OpenAI or other institutions for AI training. Yes, the ChatGPT Edu plan allows institutions to build custom GPTs tailored to specific courses or administrative functions, which can be shared within the campus workspace to enhance learning and operational efficiency. Custom GPTs require the GPT-4o model.

Yes, OpenAI provides applications for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS, allowing users to access ChatGPT across different devices. These applications also support platform-specific integrations.

ChatGPT Capability Classification

ChatGPT capabilities are organized into two primary categories:

• Features: User-facing capabilities or experiences that can be enabled, configured, or used within the platform, such as Work, Codex, Custom GPTs, and Plugins.
• Tools: Capabilities that the AI uses to perform work, access information, connect to external systems, or follow defined processes. Within the Tools category:
  • Skills: Workflow and instruction tools that guide the AI in performing specific tasks consistently.
  • Apps: Integration and connector tools that allow the AI to securely access external systems, data, and permitted actions.

Availability and Access

For ChatGPT Features, capabilities with approved use under current campus AI, information security, privacy, and acceptable use policies will be made available. To explore and evaluate advanced or emerging features, users may participate in a Community of Practice upon request. Participation may include appropriate review, guidance, and safeguards, such as attendance at an Information Security workshop and compliance with sandbox access guidelines. 

For campus-supported ChatGPT Tools:

• OpenAI-supported Apps/Connectors to approved campus applications will be enabled in accordance with campus security, privacy, and access requirements.
• Skills and Custom GPT Actions will be enabled for approved services hosted within the csufresno.edu and mail.fresnostate.edu domains.
